Saber-Sword Shadow Box; deposit to commission

$300.00

This was cut from a solid slab of genuine mahogany- measures 40″ total length and 11″ tall, and 2 1/4″ thick.  The inset for the saber is right at 1 3/4″ deep and just deep enough for the hilt to clear both the casing and the lens.

The request was to allow the woodgrain to show in the backing, which eliminated the need for EVA foam, canvas, leather, or felt.   Instead, the recipient opted for two laser cut medallions on either side and which allowed for the saber to be affixed using brass wire by tapping through them and twining behind them.

Commissioning a job like this is the standard deposit of $300, and the total cost of this piece was $425.

It is an heirloom quality piece that received a hand rubbed finish akin to a french polish.  Brass pins were chosen to affix the lens and provide a suitable seal for the protected and cherished saber and sheath.
